The Responsibility of an experienced kiltie

KiltedTexan

Gentlemen, as experienced kilties we should sheapard those that are new to the brotherhood of wearing kilt wearing. It is fine to crack a smile and have a laugh, but then we should step up and correct any problems that we see. Pleats in the front? Let them know. If they are wearing their sporran wrong, inform them. Let them know so they can wear the kilt proudly and happily. If we really are going to be a brotherhood then we need to be our brothers keeper. Be strong, kilt proudly and watch out for the chance to help a brother.

In essence I agree with you (especially the pleats in front). However, I caution against doing this too much, and especially how we communicate these suggestions. We don't want to let ourselves be perceived as "kilt police". Remember, ultimately the Kilt is a garment, and we all have the freedom to wear it as we like.  The biggest thing we need to do is support those of us who are brave enough to defy convention by going unbiforcated.

Yea. No one likes unsolicited advice delivered rudely. Kind words of correction are better received and will encourage the corrected wearer to Kilt On.

I absolutely agree, it should be done politely and with respect. I am also not advocating telling people how and where to wear their kilts at, length and such. But basting stitches still on, pleats in front, an things like this can be handled respectfully and easily with coming across as a kilt nazi.
