Just looking for some input from folks familiar with Pittsburgh. Pubs, Night Life, etc. Going up there to see an old buddy of mine for the weekend (Feb 4-8) of my birthday. Probably go skiing at least once, and I'm sure we'll visit the Church Brew Works. Any suggestions appreciated.

OMG you MUST go to my absolute favorite pub on earth...it's nothing fancy, but Scotch lines their bar and if you go for Sunday brunch they have the most amazing boxty's in all the world... lol They're not like the small traditional ones, but more like a giant potato hashbrown pancake thing stuffed with your choice of either : veggies... eggs, provolone, sausage, ham, salmon & dill sauce, or corned beef & cabbage... phenomenal, they have scotch eggs which i think you can get any time served with hot sauce... and are just good eats.
Piper's Pub located on the South Side of Pittsburg along Carson Street. here's the website : http://piperspub.com/
Church brew works is good. Harris Grill is run by some folks I know and is fabulous fun and really good, strong drinks located on Ellsworth Ave, and i'm not sure if that's Shadyside or not, but it's not far from there. Still learning my neighborhoods up there LOL : http://www.harrisgrill.com/

Primanti bros, makes a mean sandwich and it's awesome... http://www.primantibrothers.com/ there are locations throughout the city...

In Oakland area... ithink is a place called O's (Original Hotdog Shop) they make a hot dog that is awesome and the largest plate of fries you will ever see, a 1/2 portion will feed like 5 hungry college kids. Parking anywhere in the city is a pain, but piper's at least you can find street parking and you don't have to feed the meters on sundays I don't think. LOL

Another really awesome place is Yo Rita's on the southside. An aquaintance of mine is a chef there... amazing tacos and not the traditional kind, they're kind of funky and fun.... http://www.yoritasouthside.com/

Be sure to print off the coupon's if you walk in and present the coupon up front, you get 10% off your order. =) my fav. are the ground meet and the hot sausage... some are special order only so you just call ahead 2 days and place your order and you can pick up. They are closed on weekends and religious holidays.

lol oh helz yeah I eat... i love food with a passion. Of all my favorite places to travel, you could ask me about fun things to do in each place... and 9 times out of 10, I'll tell you where to eat. LOL Funny thing is though, that's NOT how i got fat and then had to lose 60lbs. I eat more now than i ever did... proof your body stores fat when it thinks you're starving it. And another thing... Ladies if a man is taking you out to eat...by God EAT!! lol

I haven't been down on Carson in quite a few years but if its still there you could hit up Mike and Tony's.

Ahh found a link. Mike and Tony's

It's a bit outside the city in Crafton but this place is great for Belgian brews on tap. Sharp Edge

Oh one more for food. Peppi's on the northside another place for a good sammich. Plus you never know who will be in there. I've run into Mike Lange there (does the radio announcing for the Pens)

There's a lot of good places to eat here, but Megs is right... have to hit up Primanti's. You can pritty much stop any Pittsburgher on the street and they will tell you where to go. If you're a bar hopper then Carson Street is the place to be. Have to be a hundred bars there. The Strip too for clubbin n'@. Can always find a good time in the Burgh.

Thanks for the info. And Megs, a special thanks for recommending Piper's Pub. Went Sunday (took about an hour to go 15 miles) with Snow Everywhere and had brunch around 1:00. I was more than a little hungry when I got there as we had no food for breakfast at my buddies house or at the store...

So I was able to enjoy a Smoked Salmon Boxty and a Traditional Breakfast and we split the 2 scotch eggs between the 4 of us. I even had some of my wife's french toast. Washed it down with a Wee Heavy. AWESOME!!!!!

A great way to re-fuel after shoveling snow for 5 hours on Saturday then night skiing at 7 Springs.

We went to the Church Brew Works on Friday night about when the snow started getting heavy. Great food and the Dopple Bock was outstanding.

I also enjoyed some Barley Wine my buddy had from a local place. He had a growler of it and we knocked most of it out on Saturday after shoveling snow.

As you can tell the major theme was SNOW. Holy Crap that was a ton of snow...
