I have a question, not only for current members for members who are thinking about joining and merchants as well.

Currently members get a 10% discount on items from our merchants.

Some merchants have sales at times, offering a discount to everyone.

In my opinion, I don't believe that a merchant would need to add this additional 10% if their existing sale is for more than 10% of the normal price.

I want to hear what you have to think about this.

I don't see that as a problem. If a merchant is already having a 20% off sale, there isn't a need to add an additional 10% on top of it. It would be nice, but I personally don't see it as necessary. That being said, I would leave it up to the individual merchant to decide on if the discount applies to sale items or not. If they allow it, then it's their generosity, if they don't, it's not them being cheap or stingy or anything. Most businesses refrain from doubling up discounts, so it's one or the other, often which ever gives the better discount.

Pain nailed it IMO.
For a people who are free, and who mean to remain so, a well-organized and armed militia is their best security.
Every citizen should be a soldier. This was the case with the Greeks and Romans, and must be that of every free state.

I can't sum it up any better than Pain did. I would have to agree with his post all the way.

I can put it another way:

The merchant/seller if he continues to sell at a loss (combining discounts) will not
be around for long when we need his goods unless he is a philanthropist of sorts.

Selling one or more items at a loss to spike sales of more profitable items; well
that the sellers business, but as 'Pain' has so well written adding/combining discounts
should be left up to the seller to see if he has enough profit to stay in business.

I say let the merchant have the option. I can set users to a different price class on my store, and the sales would stack. I would just be happy to have a sale, really, but it should be up to each individual merchant, perhaps having which option they use in a chart.

Ditto to all of the dittos,
For my items I usually don't charge shipping and insurance, which in most cases pays the 10% discount. On special sales I can't afford to double the discounts.

I belong to three buying groups (not counting this one), and none apply the group discount to sale items. But, as Pain said, the individual merchant must make that choice for him/her self.

It appears this is a non-issue. I don't think anyone in their right mind would be selfish enough to actually ask a vendor to do this. That would just be rude... especially to a small family business.

But this might explain all the fine print in adds "FOr regular priced items only" and "Can not be combined with any other offer." I guess there are some knuckle heads out there.

It`s one or the other, sales items are exclusive of other discounts, always, unless otherwise stated. IMHO, a storewide frequent or recognized customer discount applies to retain loyalty, usually sales, or discounted/discontinued item sales are to attract new customers, and therefore, two discounts should not be expected, but appreciated if offered.

I agree with Pain. A 10% discount is nice enough, and if/when I join,I'll appreciate it muchly. Knowing most Kiltiers these days are small businesses (particularly the makers of Casual and Utility Kilts), run by regular Joe's, I'd feel it'd be pretty low to expect these guys to cut any more off.
