    The Learning Curve Of Kiltmaking

If you goal is a traditional wool kilt then you will be hand sewing. For contemporary kilts, be them wool or something else, then machine sewn is fine. For me I hand sew when working with 100% wool. If using cotton/poly, wool/poly, or anything else, then I machine sew. The learning curve is steep for hand or machine sewn kilts especially if you don't have prior sewing experience. My main problem is keeping the tartan stripes aligned so they don't look like a staircase. Also keeping the pleat width and taper constant with all the pleats. Any variation will be noticed and the measurements for hip and waist will be off. One advantage of hand sewing is you can sew your kilt anywhere. Just need a small collection of hand sewing tools, a place to sit, good light, and you are good to go. Mike

    Summertime Kilted - Study Needed?

End of summer is not the end of kilt wearing. I will wear my kilts down to at least 20F. I will tend to go with the heavier wool over the lighter weight PV kilts. For the most part I am just going from a car in the parking lot to a building. So even if colder than 20F not an issue. May be if I had to walk a couple of miles I might adjust the minimum temperature for that venture. I have experimented with heavy socks above the knee but parking lot to building not necessary. The other day I was out in the country spending about half the day outside. It was mid 80's with a higher humidity and sunny skies. For some stupid reason I wore jeans. I was miserable. As soon as I got home I ditched the jeans and put on my lighter weight PV kilt. Mike

The 5.11 Kilt Is Available Again...

I also wear mine at traditional waist level. The reason is two fold. First the fell is sewn too far down. At jean wist the sewn down fell is well below where it should be. At true waist level it is about right. The second reason is the length of the kilt. If worn at jean waist it would fall well below the knee.

Usa National Tartan Day Monday April 6Th

Apriil 6th falls on a work day this year. I don't wear them into the office that often so this is a good reason to do so. Not sure which kilt yet but I will figure that out later. One guy that works in my building plays drums in a pipe and drum core. I will see if I can get him to wear his for Tartan Day.

Light At The End Of The Atunnel

David, you will be a little warmer on Sunday then here in Dayton. We are not done with the cold yet. Tuesday high of 43F and low of 28F. Today I worked from home but had to go out for an appointment and then meet the guys from work for lunch. Had on my PV kilt. Nice to be out without a coat. I don't know how warm we got today but it must have been in the upper 60's. I need to do some pleat maintenance on my PV kilts. They will be the primary kilt for casual day wear as it gets warmer. Time to get all the warm weather stuff in order for summer: lawn mower, yard clean up, pv kilt pleats..... Mike

I am beginning to think it is the same person. The posts are 12 minutes apart on the two forums. Both accounts are new and created around the same time. Mike

It also could be the guy has an ID here and a different one one the other site but is the same person. As I put in my private message to you there is the option of flagging the post on the other site. Mike
