  1. Hey everyone, a friend sent this to me in case I was interested in seeing the bands since I'm learning pipes right now. Here's something that may interest some of you, especially any Canadians living in Ontario. The City of Orillia is recognising it's Scottish heritage by having an official tartan recognised. The effort is being lead by a few locals but I don't know much more about it. Official Orillia Tartan Pattern As far as I can tell, it is not available for kilts, however the site does mention other items featuring the tartan will be made available. Orillia is very nice, by the way. I remember having a tough time playing their hockey teams as a youth. Orillia Scottish Festival
  2. I've been talking to Kevin about the possibility of doing a run of the BOTK tartan in 16 oz wool- would anyone be interested. I would be prepared to keep a little stock, but would also need to have a few orders to start with. The price will change dramatically with increased yardage, but even with a small order the price will be comparable to a standard Lochcarron stock cloth, and it could get to £36 with a 40 yard order or even cheaper with more. The cloth would be double width, so for an 8 yard kilt only 4 yards would be needed. This is just a first post to try and get an idea of the interest, I've also posted on facebook, so apologies for any duplication.1 I've done many runs of different tartans , and am happy to supply cloth only , or other items such as kilts, ties etc if asked, but I'd be happy to get hold of the cloth first!

US Army Lindsay Modern USMC Leatherneck That brings us up to 49 different tartans we offer in the wool blend and 24 in the acrylic woven fabric. you can see all our offerings at http://www.got-kilt.com
  4. Some views of my new kilt,I had some very interesting responses, being that most people didn't even notice! I was with a friend who had an Isle of Skye and he was seen and garnered a collection of stickers and leaflets, and I had nothing!and we were standing side by side! A few people once they realised what I wearing, were full of smiles and obviously took it is very good spirits.
  5. Hi Ho, all. For Islay Whisky fans out there, the Friends of Laphroaig are running a tartan design contest. The winner (by votes) will have their design become the official tartan of the group and receive a kilt made up in the new Official tartan. Their tartan generator is fairly crude, but it's fun. You can give it a whirl, or vote for my submission if you feel so inclined. here is a direct link to my entry http://laphroaig.com/tartan/view.aspx?id=5046 and a photo of my proposed design Cheers!

    Buying My First Kilt

I have a wedding that I am buying a kilt for in July. I live in Chicago so it could be decently hot, probably around 80-85 degrees. I have done several hours of research and would much appreciate some tutelage on the few below questions. What weight of fabric should I be looking for, taking into account the formality of the wedding and the potentially hot weather? I'm set on an 8 yard, but I see different weights with 16 oz being the heaviest (and most expensive). If I am ordering a Prince Charlie from across the pond, do they fit relatively similar to a suit jacket? Tighter, looser? I am planning on a tartan fly plaid to match my tartan kilt. Is it overkill to also wear a tartan tie? Let's talk pleats. Would box cut be a smart play given the warmer weather that I plan on wearing my kilt in? Or are knife pleats marginally better looking? Speaking of pleats, what are the general sentiments regarding pleating to the sett vs. pleating to the stripe? Given that hoses look pretty thick, should I order a size up on a set of ghillies brogues? I'm looking to spend around $200 dollars on a kilt and up to another $200 on a jacket. I want to have this for years to come and not just be a smash and grab job. I really appreciate any help! I've gotten very excited these last few days to start shopping but it's like learning a new language. I stumbled across this board and figured I'd defer to the wily kilted veterans instead of guessing and being disappointed.
