Hobbies and Extra Stuff

Recommended Posts

So, what kinda group do we have assembled here? Let's use this thread to get to know more about our members.

I noticed in a recent post from Doc that he is doing some work on his Jeep. I'm also a Jeeper and can be found on Jeepaholics.com often times. I've got a lifted '95 Jeep Wrangler.

But I'm also an avid reader, camper, online gamer, husband, and advertising executive. What about you folks?

Wow..great minds think alike! I was thinking the same thing I guess when I posted that I am trying to upgrade my jeep..figured it would spark some talk..anyway, I guess my number one hobby/love would be bike riding..have over 46 yrs in the saddle.

And I like to do some kayaking

After reading your posts I guess my life is kind of dull, I work for a large investment firm here in St Louis in the Administrative services area, working with IBM 3900 Main Frame printers, on the weekends you can find me parked in front of the tube watching NASCAR or ST Louis Cardinal baseball. Got a dog who's name is spike and a cat named fatso.

As I said before I have a daughter who is in basic traing right now and she tells me she is doing fine.My wife and I have a new nephew who we are trying to spoil rotten.

That's pretty much my life in a nutshell

I too love NASCAR..anything with a motor in it, I am there! As for Baseball, football or basketball, I wouldn't give a flip any of them..sometimes I admit I wish there was a law against them..but oh well..I just not big into the "sports" scene..I tell folks that I don't drink or smoke or do drugs, BUT I do ride bikes, cuss and chase women so in my book, it ballances out. Some will ask me what I do for a living and I tell them that I am too busy having fun and I don't have time for a job, besides "I like to rest up so fatigue won't set in"...by trade, I am a licensed embalmer and spent years in the public service and such..so now I am retired and doing the stuff I wanna do, and all before the age of 50!

Come this April, the house will be paid off and I am going to play HARDER! Life is too short not to!

Been following NASCAR since I was about 17, When my wife and I first started going out she couldn't stand it now it's like she can't wait for the weekends to watch all the racing, My daughter and I started going to the Busch race here a few years ago and last year we took her for her first race and she just loved it, We are hoping that we can go to the Brickyard next year.

As for hobbies, I do not know I am locked into one in particular. I am a partner in a Texas law firm and have a couple of side ventures to keep me buys, so work does get the lions share of my schedule. I used to take flying lessons but decided I could be putting some poor guy out of a job so I leave the flying to the professionals as long as they dont represent themselves in court. Due to a colorful past, I have ended up with a couple of pastimes that I enjoy. At different times through the year, I can be found teaching a Tactical Pistol course, lecturing on the use of deadly force, participating in a wine tasting in California, consulting on jury selection, attending a cattle auction, and a half other things that go towards burning daylight.

Now the average day is somewhat boring but regardless I usually like to end it by going to the dog park for a few a little while or on the balcony at the office with a scotch and cigar.

I LOVE Tactical Pistol! Use to belong to the USPSA..the nearest range that was set up for tactical was over 100 miles away and it was tuff to go every month..I loved the training tho..I do have CCW here in AR and living out like I do, it is nice to just step out on the deck and fire away! (got me 200 acres here to shoot up, just dont aim towards the cows, okay?) Sold a bunch of my guns a few yrs ago..still have a few but all my other "toys" take up alot of my time and money anymore..wish we all had the time and MONEY to do everything we want. Judge, you and I are gonna hafta hook up one of these days! I will be in Ft Worth this weekend starting tomorrow (wednesday)..have plans to hook up with Chris Webb from the Kiltmen web site..he's a gun buff too..am taking my pooter with me so I can stay in touch.

Good deal Doc, buff as well. I have a CHL license among others. Must be nice to go out into the yard. I am fortunate to have about 4 ranges that I can frequent, two indoor, a couple handle full auto. The only pain is a long gun range is a bit of a drive. Sure is sounding like a hobby that while i have not put a lot of time in at one sitting, over the long haul it looks like it.

This was a great idea, and I'll be the first to do a list.

  • -Music. I play all kinds of instruments. Currently in a Christian rock band.

-Surfing.

-Currently a STRYKER mechanic in the U.S. Army (this would explain why I'm in Hawaii).

-Getting out soon to go to school to become a music teacher.

-I love hunting, fishing, and checking out the local music scene (in the kilt of course)

-I love restoring old Cadillacs to OG and I love Harleys though I can't afford either!

Yeah, the girls really aren't that beautiful, just the tourists believe it our not. And yeah, I fell into a routine very quickly. And I easily take for granted that its going to be atleast 75 year round. Though, it sucks because I'm going on leave back to my home state, Iowa in a week. I freeze my but off in in 60 degree weather because I'm accustom to Hawaii's weather. It is absolutely gorgeous down here. I can post pics if you want. Unfortunately I don't have any kilted Hawaii pics, but I'll be sure to get some when I get my new kilt.

I get out this summer.

Once I learn the pipes myself, yes I will definitely teach. The trick isn't learning them myself, the trick is affording them!

[list'] -Music. I play all kinds of instruments. Currently in a Christian rock band.

Music soothes the savage beast- it also creates the savage beast! What instruments do you play? I was once a drummer, a guitar player, a banjo player, and I started to learn the mandolin- then........... I got married! All my musician/ beer drinking friends eventually drifted away!

rock on- Christian music has come a long ways!!

Where the heck were you when I was single?!!!!

I have a lot of hobbies,,just not much time to do them in. I like outdoors stuff, hunting, camping, hiking...used to teach Environmental Education many moons ago.

I have played RPG's since the middle 80's, attend and recently work at, a Ren faire. My biggest hobby tho is making Chainmaille, (which is how I got to work at the ren faire) A few months ago I made a sporran chain, and now I'm working on a few things for next faire season.

I'm sure, not that I'm newly single again, I'll find some other hobbies to try out and add to my list. :)

Whoa!

Talented!

I always wanted to pick up a fiddle and fiddle with learning it- basically the same as a mandolin except different.

The violin is a tough cookie. I can relate it to my ukulele, but not having frets is what makes it so versatile but so hard at the same time.

That is one heck of a list. The most ambitious I am currently is looking to learn the bagpipes. But of course, guitar has always been in the back of my mind.
