I Need a pattern

Recommended Posts

Anybody know of a good pattern for ghillie brogues?

I'm going to attempt making a pair of "rustic", not formal wear... to wear to renfaires, etc.

Since I'm making a crude, homemade style, I'm sure I could develop my own pattern, but it would be nice to reference something established.

Some on-line patterns a friend linked me to that would fit your purposes:

Those also are similar to some illustrations in history books on the "dark age" Scotland (the term "dark age" refers more to OUR lack of knowledge -thanks to Vikings- about them than anything about the people of the 5th to 11th centuries (using the largest dating brackets). They were used up THROUGH the Jacobite rebellions (1740s).

He also said that the Smoke and Fire "Gillie Brogues" look like NOTHING he has seen in Scottish finds. He also pointed out that a "gillie" is a PERSON (actually a person with a particular POSITION/OFFICE in a clan), not a shoe, though people still use the term for the modern "ghillie brogues."

Fixed, that was cut and pasted from another thread/post.

I forgot that they only copied the text as shown, not as linked.

I went to the original thread and got the ACTUAL links.
