Here are 3 historically/archeaologically PROVEN patterns for
http://www.personal....HOES/SHOE55.HTM
http://www.personal....HOES/SHOE56.HTM
http://www.personal....HOES/SHOE57.HTM

These basic patterns were followed from late-Roman time (maybe earlier) UP THROUGH the Jacobite Rebellions.

They were made of rough (often untanned) hide.
The fur could be on the inside for warmth or the outside for traction (both documented).

Basically, they took a scrap of hide from a food kill. Put their foot on it, then they sewed the hide around the foot to make a brogue/shoe.
When that one wore out, they made another.

They are ESSENTIALLY disposable shoes.
May the Kilt be with you, always!

That's what I was thinking of... THANKS!

I could not get any of the three links to work--apparently I need the exact stuff instead of the ellipses. Or perhaps a link condensed via the magic of tinyurl.com.
Enjoying the breeze 'tween m'knees!

My goal is to have more miles on my bicycles each year than I do on my car. I rode over 7200 miles instead of driving in 2011. Life is GREAT!

I finally figured out that the image I had here was just too darned big to be in a signature, so I have removed it. Carry on.

I updated the links . . .
The abbreviated formatting of the originals failed to survive one of the server transfers or software upgrades.

IMO = FANTASTIC post.

This is an area that, I personally have "locked horns" over.

BTW, These are EASY to make.
As to addition ideas,, one might "check out" the patterns offered on the BP/ML sites for native Amer. mocs. ( they are sim. )

Interesting!! The Lucas type 3 looks very similar in design and stitching to the Northern American Indian mocassin pattern we used for the historic rondezvous........
