Historic Scottish Shoe Patterns

These basic patterns were followed from late-Roman time (maybe earlier) UP THROUGH the Jacobite Rebellions.
They were made of rough (often untanned) hide.
The fur could be on the inside for warmth or the outside for traction (both documented).
Basically, they took a scrap of hide from a food kill. Put their foot on it, then they sewed the hide around the foot to make a brogue/shoe.
When that one wore out, they made another.
They are ESSENTIALLY disposable shoes.

My goal is to have more miles on my bicycles each year than I do on my car. I rode over 7200 miles instead of driving in 2011. Life is GREAT!
I finally figured out that the image I had here was just too darned big to be in a signature, so I have removed it. Carry on.

This is an area that, I personally have "locked horns" over.
BTW, These are EASY to make.
As to addition ideas,, one might "check out" the patterns offered on the BP/ML sites for native Amer. mocs. ( they are sim.
