As some of you may know, I did a tour in Iraq during OIF Rotation One. I made it back with only some dings to my back. A lot of other folks weren't so lucky. Its taken a few years, but I am finally in a position health-wise to give something back to a group of folks I hold dear.
On Saturday, July 25, 2009 I am doing a 65 mile race in the second annual Soldier Ride, The Hamptons to raise money in support of programs for veterans wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. I'm riding with another OIF vet (filthy MP) who works with me in Emergency Services. We plan on wearing our kilts (to registration) and our team name is the Kilted Krusaders.
It is my personal goal to raise at least $1,000 and you can help! You can sponsor me right now by clicking on the website listed below. All donations are tax deductible.
Soldier Ride 2009: Attack of the Kilted Krusaders
If you prefer to send a check, you can make it payable to the Wounded Warrior Project and mail it to Stephen Talkhouse, P.O. Box 1905, Amagansett, NY 11930. Make sure that you indicate that it's for my ride and place my name in the memo area of the check.
Money raised by The Empire State Challenge goes to support the many programs of the Wounded Warrior Project. The Wounded Warrior Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting the new generation of severely injured servicemen and women. Delivering personal and responsive attention for these heroes, The Wounded Warrior Project provides free programs and services for the severely wounded, enables vets to help vets, and educates the public and enlists their aid in this important effort. If you'd like more information on the work of the project, go to www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
Together, I know we can make a difference in the life of a wounded veteran. Thank you for your support!
