I did my talk on the creation of the Scottish Wildcat tartan and the plight of the Scottish Wildcat on Friday of last week to the Scottish Studies Foundation Oor club. It was wonderful to have family there as well as a couple of friends. The talk went well and everyone was impressed with the tartan. I am also wearing Scottish Wildcat tartan Argyll hose, my girlfriend's grandfather's sporran and sgian dubh, my shirt is from Brooks Brothers, the tie is from Lochcarron of Scotland, my cuff links are a thistle motif that belonged to my uncle, and Florsheim shoes. There were friends in the audience but the best part was that my sister and twin brother showed up.
Here is what I've been working on. As some of you may know I designed a tartan a couple of years ago. It is being used to raise funds for Wildcat Haven, they get 15% of the proceeds from the sale of the tartan, we have done 3 runs of tartan and have raised £5000 thus far. Since the design phase I wanted a full tartan kilt suit, Argyll jacket, waistcoat and kilt. I had the kilt but only recently got more yardage to make the jacket and waistcoat. Last Friday was the first fitting of the new pieces. It should be ready by the end of this week. If you've never had anything made bespoke you really must do it one day it is an experience not to be missed. I know a full tartan kilt suit is not for everyone, however as the designer of this tartan I thought I would be able to pull it off. I am looking forward to wearing this at several events in the near future. Jacket and Waistcoat from The Scottish Company, kilt from Barb Tewksbury, sporran from Artificer, hose from House of Cheviot, shirt from Gieves and Hawkes, tie is a Ralph Lauren that I found in the same thrift shop I got the shirt in, cufflinks were my Uncles and sgian dubh was carved by my girlfriend's grandfather.
