  1. Hello everybody, I made sgian dubh again. Total lenght 250 mm (10 inch) Knife length 230 mm (9 inch) Blade is from blacksmith Oleg Milovidov(Ukraine). The steel used is 52100, about 59 HRC, 105 x 25 x 4 mm (4 x 1 x 0,16 inch) Bog oak handle and matching sheath with a carving, waxed finish, Baltic Amber pommel stone.
  2. So after prowling another site I began to wonder something... There are many folks who strive to dress top drawer if you get my meaning, I see people in custom jackets costing several hundred dollars that might be able to hold a silk pocket square or pocket watch but otherwise have no usable pockets, dress sporrans with plated cantles, mile long yak hair.. But haven't the ability to open or can only hold a tic-tac box and 37 cents change. I am a simple fellow who feels form follows function. I buy what I can afford, and I buy what is useful... My day/casual sporran is cavernous and is the finest I can afford so if I'm attending a formal event that's what you will see me wearing and wearing proudly at that, my sgian dubh is home-made, functional, and quite sharp... No dull chrome blade and plastic here. If my antler handle and stitched sheath aren't fancy enough, well too d@mn bad because it's my only one. I own shirts and hose that fit, nothing fancy or flashy. I'm making a jacket conversion, with real pockets and everything! For really fancy I have a tux jacket that I can wear both kilted and trousered. I bought it from the place I rented it from for a wedding. Just kept it after asking about ex rental jackets for sale. I just paid a few dollars over my cleaning fee when I returned the other bits. I guess I'm cheap and not much into flashy baubles.. Are you a kiltie with an eye towards utility/function or are you more beauty/glitz? Let me know your style and maybe why you chose your accessories.
  3. Hi there, send you some pics of a sgian dubh I made.. the blade is made of carbon steel, and the handle it's made of a piece of deer antler.. I'm workin' on some models, I'll send you some pics when they're ready... hope you like it!
  4. Yes, I know, crazy but true We have 800 kilts on display, 1500 more of additional sizes and stock tucked away in the back, 14 different designs, 60 different tartans and sizes from baby to 60". Sharp pointy things, Steam punk accessories, Renaissance goodies, just everything you could want....well except a new sign. The store will be called "The Alt Shop" because of the joining of Steam and Ren with the kilts, but we loaned them ours for now. The store is NOW open! it is located at 39720 W. 14 mile Rd in Commerce Township, Michigan come on down and say hey! 6. I personally don't carry a sgian dubh when I kilt. I tend to try to be a little more practical in my daily wear, and having a knife in my sock just isn't comfortable or practical for me. Lately I have carried a clip on folding knife on my belt instead. It is more handy and useful to me. This leads me to ask what do you carry? A sgian dubh? Pocket knife?
