Appalachian Celtic Festival And Highland Games

Recommended Posts

I somehow got on the planning commitee for this, so I decided to put the info on here now and add to it as more info rolls in. Appalachian Celtic Connection

The festival runs Saturday 10am-6pm, and Sunday 10am-5pm

The main performers will be Highland Reign (they rock and are some good folks to hang with) Highland Reign

other music to be added as we sign them.

Saturday night following the end of the first days activities, there will be a Ceilidh at the Ringgold Depot

Both days will have Highland games, crafts and Celtic food vendors, and childrens activities...and again, more to be added soon.

There will also be Clan reps present which as of right now include MacNeil, Lamont, Cameron, Hay, MacLaren, Buchanan, Gunn, and Keith, hopefully we will add more as the invites come back to us.

If anyone is interested in being a vendor, competitor, have a Clan tent, or just want a place to hang out for the day, come on over and say hey, I'll be at the Lamont tent both days

I won't be able to attend, but would love too. I wish hotel rates were as good in SoCal as the few I looked at in Ringgold. A complete aside but I looked at Highland Reign web site. In Ireland this spring they played the American Bar on Inishmore in the Aran Islands and Monroe's on Dominick Street in Galway City. Two very enjoyable places to enjoy an evening and a few pints.

They are some GREAT guys! My daughter is a big fan. Each year they have come down they pull her up on stage to dance for a song. They also made a child sized tee for her to sport. Les Miller ( the lead singer) always makes sure to chat with her every once in awhile on FB just to keep in touch.

Eric, how far is this from Atlanta/Duluth GA area? I may be down that weekend visiting my man and we're both Irish/Scots so he might like it. Haven't gotten him in a kilt yet because he's mainly Irish, but I'm trying. LOL

Rock on, lost a staff member at work and it's budget season, but if I get the temp or new hire in time, I'll be planning another trip the south after August. Would LOVE to hang with Rayne & the Mrs. and you!!

That's no excuse :) , a nice saffron or solid green is great. Stillwater offers both. While I have an SWK saffron, my first worsted wool hand made kilt has been on order since March and will be a Saffron box pleated. Then of course that are district and Universal tartans. I have a PV Isle of Skye that I really enjoy.

Eric: I meant to add that I liked that you got Y Ddraig Goch (the Red Dragon) in the poster. I am not Welsh but I do like that flag. Nice job.

Thanks Joe, I was trying to get something that showed it was a Celtic event, not just a Scottish, or Irish. Alot of folks don't know the differences and similarities. The one thing I failed to do was to incorporate the Appalachian aspect, but other than pictures of maps or of the Smokys, it is a hard thing to do.

That's just a few hours away from home for me. It would make a nice weekend trip. Any particular hotels you would recommend or direct people away from?

I sure can. Now there are a number of fine hotels around that area, being it is just off I-75, but we have a host hotel that is offering discounts for people who reserve a room and say they are coming for the event. Check out this link: http://www.appalachiancelticconnection.org/page14

If I can help in any other way please feel free to shoot me a PM, and I look forward to meeting you. Also if you are staying for Saturday evening we will be having a Ceilidh Saturday night at 7:30 down at the Ringgold Depot. Tickets ( there are a limited #) for this will be available at the festival. There will be live music, food and drink.

I'm going to try and make it, but probably as an attendee and not

9this year) with the whole clan tent. 4 weeks later is the Loch Hartwel games and 3 weeks after that is Stone Mt. That's a lot of gear-schlepping.

Hope you can make it, maybe I can give you enough warning next year to bring up the H.O.G. to the event.

Very cool! I will be there running around putting out fires.

We are setting some of the things up Friday and are looking at a FULL weekend of activities. It will be cool. And it seems if the weather is going to cooperate with us this year , SUNNY and mid 80s!

Heres the Facebook Event Page for this: CLICK HERE

See you there and thanks for the bump!

I will do my best for some good shots, another cool thing is Turpin is coming up to represent Clan Gordon. It is never a complete festival without the H.O.G.!
