Traquair House Ale

Recommended Posts

This past weekend I had the opportunity to enjoy one of my favorite scottish ales, Traquair House Ale, in my opinion the empirical example of a wee heavy and the one my own homebrew wee heavy is styled after.

It pours a deep dark crimson color with an off white/tan head, the nose is heavy malt with hints of caramel and toast, and the slightest hint of oak riding on the alcohol.

The first sip reveals a depth of flavor from the kettle caramelization during the brewing process, there is malt up front lending a sweetness, followed by stone fruit, notably black cherry and a hint of nectarine, the finish is a whisp of smoke from the yeast and an oaky finish that neither overpowers nor is too subtle.

I would recommend picking up a few bottles and relaxing on the porch after a long day at work.
